NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha Secretary General PPK Ramacharyulu has urged senior officials of the Secretariat to take greater initiative and be more imaginative in effectively meeting the needs of the House and its members.
Meeting with about 1300 staff and officials working in Rajya Sabha, Ramacharyulu said, “while the functioning of Rajya Sabha and its Secretariat are guided by defined sets of rules, there is substantial scope for taking initiatives, imagination, anticipation and dynamism within the framework of rules for more effective functioning of the House and Secretariat”.
A day after assuming the office as Secretary General, Ramacharyulu held a two hour long review meeting with senior officials today to identify the bottlenecks in the present functioning of the Secretariat and evolving an action plan for it’s improved performance.
He thanked Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu for reposing confidence in and appointing an insider for the first time in about 70 years as Secretary General, RamAcharyulu also urged officials to work as a more dynamic team to meet the expectations of the Chairman.
He also asked them to be more pro-active in highlighting the functioning of the Rajya Sabha and the Secretariat by taking necessary initiatives and called for professional and more effective coordination with media to highlight the functioning of various committees of the House and the reports submitted by them from time to time.
The Secretary General also stressed that every organisation is bound by rules, but shelter should not be taken under them to shy away from imparting freshness of approach and dynamism in serving the Chairman and the House.
