MUMBAI: A police personnel risked his life to save a passenger by pulling him to safety when he lost balance while boarding a running train.
The incident took place at Andheri station on August 30.
Mangesh Sawant, attached with Vakola traffic division as head constable, was traveling in a train to Santacruz on the morning of August 30.
Sawant told TOI, “I was traveling in a coach reserved for the physically disabled and saw a man trying to board a running train in the compartment ahead of mine. While boarding, he lost his balance and was getting dragged on the platform. I alighted from the running train and pulled him to safety before he could fall on the tracks.”
The train crew too was not aware of the incident as the local had gained speed and moved out of the station.
Sawant said that he sustained minor injuries on the ankle.
He said, “The unknown passenger ran away from the spot as he was scared of the angry jibes from passengers which had gathered around him.”
